Sterling silver overlay pendant depicting the symbolic figure of First Man, from Phillip Honanieās āEmergence Jewelryā series. Created in 1976 and based on Honanieās original painting Emergence, the design reflects the origin story of the Hopi people emerging into the present world through Sipapu, the Hopi place of emergence.
This stylized form represents the first adult male brought into existence and is rendered in precise overlay work, with bold geometric lines representing water. The pendant doubles as a pin and is hung on a handmade 24" Hopi link chain.
